Lockport band wins national marching title with no majorettes
Mason City Iowa AP The Lockport HI high school band led by Ernest Caneva won the national marching band championship defeating 27 bands. The event coincided with the North Town Band Festival and the premiere of The Music Man. The band earned $10 719 in instruments and wore severe uniforms with no majorettes. Second place went to Bossier City Louisiana followed by Lebanon Plainview and Montgomery. Willson was named honorary colonel by Gov Norman Erbe.

KU plans new Fraser building and gym amid campus growth
The 1963 Legislature approved a two phase gym project and a Fraser replacement on Mt Oread. Phase 1 budget 1.2 million will meet current needs with space for classrooms offices showers and pools. Completion could be by January 1966 if funds flow.

Kansas University graduates Mrs. Ann Wiley and Condon Juhl are forging 9000 dollar silver altar pieces for the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville Illinois. They design a 23 inch monstrance six candlesticks two seven branch candelabra two wall bracket lamps and a crucifix. Mrs Wiley plans to transport all pieces but the monstrance to Belleville this weekend. The remaining silver on the monstrance will take the rest of the summer to finish. The pair work 12 to 13 hours daily, turning rough sterling into shining religious treasures for immediate use.

Immanuel Church Names Rev Earl Zimmerman Assistant Pastor
Rev Earl Zimmerman named assistant pastor for Immanuel Lutheran Church and Student Center at 17th and Vt Streets. He will be installed at 8 30 a m July 1 with Rev Daniel De Block. He comes from Shawnee County Social Welfare in Topeka and will work toward a master’s in social work at Kansas University. He and his wife and three children will live at Sunset Farm Route 4.
