Chicago June Wo S P Shearin of Indians and former Democratic National Committee member died suddenly today while reading a paper at the Independent Telephone Convention. Death was due to apoplexy. Shearin, president of a new long distance company in Indianapolis, was at the speaker’s table when he joked about needing a pardon to keep reading his reply to the welcome address. He collapsed and died within moments. S P Shvado Jr. and son were present and helped handle the body as the convention adjourned.
Washington June 20 The state department received a Moroc co government dispatch asking the United States to join a conference on Moroccan affairs The request mirrors that sent to other governments and the U S reply will be discussed at a cabinet meeting The United States is said to have commercial interests while Germany and France push political aims and may influence whether the U S joins if all great powers participate.

Topeka June 20 The railroads that asked permission to abolish commodity rates from Missouri river points have withdrawn the applications, likely ending the push to remove the commodity rate. Myra McHen ry, temperance agitator, was freed in Winfield after a three week detention in the Arkansas City jail. She had been the only prisoner for two weeks and reportedly roamed the unlocked jail at times, requiring the jailer to lock doors at night.
Topeka June 20 Judge A W Dana Shawnee county district court refuses to pass upon the suit brought by E Pajarda of Porto Rico against the Atchison Topeka Santa Fe railway. The 1903 verdict of 1000 dollars was awarded for the death of Pajarda's son, a University of Kansas student, struck by a Santa Fe train, on grounds the youth was not a United States citizen.
Henry Dy Thacker chairman of the board of county commissioners was shot at his home in Syracuse. The shot was fired from concealed position behind rose bushes. he died about an hour later. County attorney and others say ex-sheriff A M Huffman did the shooting. Huffman is under arrest with a preliminary examination set for tomorrow.

Hammond was discovered unconscious and nearly suffocated before rescue.
The Kansas liquor law will be tested in the United States Supreme Court. Fritz Dureth Frederick Rosa James Shesalay Frederick Simmons and Newman Joard have appealed after convictions for selling liquor. The Kansas Supreme Court upheld the verdict, arguing the law stands.
Chisago June 20 The annual convention of the National Interstate Independent Telephone association opened here today and will continue until Thursday. Delegates aim to form a united central body to bring harmony across the entire independent system.

June 20 at the White House Minister Herbert W. Bowen and his brother Clarence Kowen of New York met with President for a brief audience. Their main aim was to discuss the Loomis Bowen case with Secretary Taft who had taken interest since the matter’s reception.
Bevier Missouri June 2 John Plummer shot and killed L Vale assistant foreman of an adjacent mine after renewing an old quarrel. Plummer fled but was tracked by a sheriff's posse into a corn field where he was shot and fatally wounded after refusing to surrender.
United States Attorney Nave will proceed against several Mormons in Apache county on the charge of polygamy as directed by the Department of Justice.
Lieu tenant Pearl Calv in Titus of U S A, the first soldier to scale the wall of Peking during the relief of the city in the Boxer uprising, wed Miss Grace Robinson of Colorado Springs today. Titus was formerly of Kansas.
Topeka June 20 Dr F J Crumbine secretary of the state board of health released the May health report for Kansas noting a continued drop in contagious diseases. The total reported cases of all forms of contagion for the month are 730 with 62 deaths statewide.
Philadelphia stock exchange issued a warning to members about negotiating stock certificates bearing the name of Benjamin H. Gaskill & Co. The notice alerts brokers to be vigilant for fraudulent or misrepresented shares tied to the firm.

Independence June 2 General Manager O Neil of the Prairie Oil and Gas company announces that the Standard Oil company will resume work in the Kapsag field and will relay the pipe to the heavy oil districts paying 2 cents a barrel for all oil grading between 22 and 25 degrees in quality

The charges against Loomis are declared without sufficient foundation. Fangville June 20 Simon Ford a negro who attacked a white woman near Riverside was taken from Hobanwald jail by a mob of fifty and killed. Ford, wounded, allegedly admitted his crime and asked to be killed, receiving no plea.
