Ex-husband and son charged in bat attack on ex-wife
Douglas County documents show 60-year-old Arthur Davis III and his 15-year-old son charged with attempted first-degree murder in an attack on Davis' ex-wife at her Hilltop Drive home. Prosecutors say the victim was asleep when she was repeatedly struck with an aluminum softball bat.

Heritage area seeks up to 10 million for Civil War region
The Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area board plans to finalize a management plan to allow a 41 county Kansas Missouri border region to apply for as much as 10 million dollars in federal funding over 15 years. The plan aims to leverage the Civil War birthplace region during its 150th anniversary in 2015. Judy Billings of the Lawrence CVB says national publicity will boost tourism and regional profile. The board meets at 2 p.m. at the Kansas City Central Library to submit the plan to the National Park Service for approval.
