Algiers Reports Pause in Terror Pact With Moslems

In Algiers and Oran a pact between the Secret Army Organization and Moslem National Liberation Front prompted a halt to the scorched earth campaign. Court Will Review Georgia Unit Vote

The Supreme Court agreed to review Georgia's county unit vote system used in Democratic primaries which a lower court ruled unconstitutional. The court gave no emergency status for the Sept. 12 primary and will hear in the fall term starting Oct. 1. Justice Harlan hinted at a possible stay application from Georgia officials.

Market Continues Downtrends Amid Profit Taking

New York traders pushed the market lower after an early session gain as profit taking trimmed a rally. The AP 60-stock average fell to 212.30 and the Dow Jones industrials slipped to 572.37, with the S&P 500 at 55.48 as volume neared 2 million shares in two hours.

Goldberg Opens New Talks To Avert Airline Walkout

Secretary of Labor Arthur J. Goldberg convened renewed peace talks to avert a threatened flight engineers strike against Trans World Airlines. The engineers failed to appear for the opening session as a union member and a government mediator sought a settlement before the 2:30 p.m. Tuesday deadline.

Three Mounties Killed in Kamloops Shooting

In Kamloops British Columbia a rifleman shot and killed three Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers on a downtown street near the welfare offices. The attacker fled into the hills as mounted police and Game Department officers pursued by foot and helicopter. Witnesses said the suspect approached Game Department employee George Ferguson before opening fire on the mounted officers.

Red Guard Shot by Comrades at Berlin Escape Tunnel

East German border guard was killed by fellow guards while aiding refugees escaping through a Red Wall tunnel near Checkpoint Charlie. West Berlin police initially said a duel occurred but later denied firing. the shooting followed a tunnel escape 300 yards from the checkpoint.

Camp At KU Draws 790 Students for 25th Music and Art Session

About 790 campers from 40 states arrived at Kansas University for the 25th Midwestern Music and Art Camp. Music division accounts for 380 students, art 180, science and math 96, with others in ballet theater speech and engineering. Final enrollment expected to exceed 825, total summer camp near 1,000 with July junior high addition. Concerts planned weekly with bands orchestras choirs across Murphy Hall and Hoch Auditorium under faculty and guest leaders.

Haskell Institute Drops Ninth Grade to Expand Vocational Program

Haskell Institute and the Bureau of Indian Affairs plan to eliminate the ninth grade this fall to enlarge the vocational training program. Principal Solon Ayers says many requests for entry were turned away and some students will be reassigned to other BIA schools. Consideration is also given to dropping the tenth grade in 1963.

Lawrence lies in a tornado warning belt issued today by the Weather Bureau. Scattered severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes hail and damaging winds are expected along a line from Hutchinson to northeast of Kansas City from 2 to 8 p m today. Tonight to be partly cloudy with a low in the 60s. Highs in the 80s Tuesday.

Worst air disaster blamed on crew in fiery NYC crash

The Civil Aeronautics Board ruled the United Air Lines DC8 crew erred in distance judgment causing the 1960 collision with a TWA Lockheed over Staten Island that killed 134 aboard and on the ground. The report cites the DC8 flying beyond its cleared Preston holding area, with speed and a new routing as contributing factors.
