Lansing Kans June 18 mutinous convict miners fought guards in the Kansas state penitentiary coal mine with tear gas and gunfire. Warden Lacey Simpson ordered eight tower guards armed and descending the air shaft to barricade it while the state board of administration prepared to investigate the strike and guards reinforced the perimeter around the prison.
