President Harding and Director Lord of the budget announced that the government has lived within its income for the past year and built a surplus of about 200 million dollars. Treasury officials expect a further reduction in expenditures for next year. The year began with a deficit of 823 million.
San Francisco hearing before Judge Holmes Hall on a $300 million patent fight over the Dobbs cracking process used for high grade gasoline. The case, moved from Kansas, claims the Burton process infringes the Dobbs patent as the dominant method in world production. Universal Oil, led by Ogden Armour with counsel from Senator James Reed of Missouri, argues Dobbs is foundational.
Washington reports the state of Kansas will not seek a rehearing after a Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of the Industrial Relations law. The move ends further legal action on the case as of today.

WHEAT INSPECTOR HERE HW Sumner from KSAC toured Douglas County to inspect pure seed wheat and Kanata oats. He visited farms of Fred Laptiad T Herd Walter Ochrle and Ralph Colman. He called Colman’s Kanetu oats field among the best in the state and noted oats and wheat stem quality at state average, predicting seed prices this fall.
The general committee for the Fourth of July plans a gathering at the American Legion headquarters at 7 30 tonight. members from the University Iaskell Institute American Legion Chamber of Commerce Rotary and Kiwanis clubs will review the tentative program and finalize arrangements for the day.
Williams a dairy extension expert from Manhattan will visit Douglas County next Friday and Saturday to promote the formation of a cow testing association. He will stay in Eudora Friday night and attend a chairman meeting to address interested residents.

The Kansas City police concluded Ed Schmidt of Lawrence had no connection to the forged check arrests. Fern Meade confessed she used his name to deflect blame after overhearing a street conversation. J B Walston, KC detectives chief, affirmed Schmidt’s innocence and that the accusation was a false claim by Meade.

County notices inform Fort to Fort highway residents to bring their benefit tax notices when paying their portion at the county treasurer’s office. The county clerk mailed notices showing the amount due for each resident near the road last Saturday.
The county bonus board met for a standard session from 8 to 5 pm. Only a small number of bonus applications are arriving at the courthouse, with a handful still mailed in. The local error rate is lower than many counties per state reports. About two hundred of 1,250 approved applications were returned for correction.

The action follows British intelligence that Turks planned to move guns and troops from Thrace in violation of the Mudania armistice as hostilities with Greece loomed.
