Ryun Eligible To Compete In AAU Meet
Jim Ryun, 19, of the University of Kansas, is cleared to try for another sub four minute mile at the National AAU Track and Field Championship June 25-26 in New York. A five member mediation panel headed by Theodore Kheel urged neutrality, sparing Ryun and others from penalties for competing in Terre Haute, and the AAU agreed. The event on Randalls Island will shape the U.S. team for meets with Poland and the Soviet Union in July. Ryun already set a world best in the half mile at Terre Haute and is entered in the 880 and mile, aiming for a mile time near the world record.
