In Hamburg on June 16 more than thirty men were trapped in the hold of the Brazilian liner Avare when she capsized while being hauled from dry dock at Vulman ship yards. Openings were forced to rescue the crew as the vessel sank two thirds of its depth in the canal.

Frank La Forge, 26, an assistant cashier at the Brazilian State Bank of Brazilion, died after stepping from a window while sleepwalking at his home in Green Bush west of Girard. He fell sixteen feet to a stone sidewalk, striking his head and fracturing the skull. The incident occurred this forenoon and followed years of nervous trouble involving sleepwalking.
