Cost of Living Rises Across Budgets in 1972 Study
The Labor Department reports a typical four person family needs 11446 yearly for a moderate living standard, 7368 for austere, and 16558 for some luxuries. Costs rose 4 percent for moderate and higher budgets and 2.4 percent for austerity from the prior year. Anchorage Alaska is the most expensive area while Southern towns are cheapest.

Kidnapper Barry Sentenced In 1972 Concordia Case
Kenneth Warren Barry 48 of Ne nex a Kan was sentenced to life in prison for the kidnapping of a 12 year old Concordia girl on May 31 1972. He is sought in Kansas for aggravated kidnapping after the girl was found tied in an abandoned farm building near Geneva Nebraska. Barry was arrested the same day following a high speed chase near York Nebraska in connection with assaults on four women.

Raft Race Set for June 30 At Eudora to De Soto
The Great Kaw River Raft Race sponsored by the De Soto Jaycees starts at 10 a.m. June 30 at the north end of the Eudora bridge. Kurt von Achen of the Lawrence Jaycees calls the local entry revolutionary and fast. Last year the winner took 2 hours 35 minutes. 14 entries expected, possibly doubling. Minimum raft size eight by ten feet. maximum crew seven. Race coincides with De Soto’s annual carnival.
