Kansas University honors Florida A&M University band director William P. Foster at a pregame ceremony in Tallahassee before KU faces Florida State on Sept. 25. Foster, KU alumnus and longtime leader of FAMU bands, has directed since 1946 and earned multiple honors including the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Center namesake designation. Chancellor Laurence Chalmers praised Foster as a leading figure in music education.

South Viet Forces to Assume Full DMZ Defense
South Vietnamese units will take over the entire defense of the DMZ within three months as U S troops withdraw. The 1st Brigade, 5th Mechanized Infantry Division will pull out in weeks, joining South Vietnam's 1st Infantry Division in a phased withdrawal beginning July 1. The DMZ remains a tense frontier amid North Vietnamese buildup and shelling of bases along its southern edge.

Hospital Board To Get Reports At Wednesday Meeting

Juvenile Held in Drug Possession Probe After Police Pursuit
A 17 year old male juvenile is in Lawrence Municipal Jail for investigation of illegal drug possession after a chase from North Second to TeePee Junction. He allegedly hid a plastic bag with a white capsule during the stop. A 14 year old was referred for motorcycle theft and two break ins at Nichols Cycle Shop.

Joint Airlift for Relief By US and Soviet Planes
In Calcutta, American and Soviet transport planes launched a joint airlift to move thousands of East Pakistani refugees from crowded border areas to new interior camps. The Russians began at dawn sending 110 passengers from Dum Dum to Raipur and back for a second load. A U S Air Force C130 delivered tarpaulin for camps and ferried refugees from Gauhati to Agartala then to Assam. The operation will run about a month with four U S and two Soviet aircraft participating.

Youth recalls gator teeth attack at Lake Sage

KU Receives 90000 Bequest for Nursing Scholarship
The Kansas University Endowment Association will use a 90000 bequest from John Wettig of Valley Falls to establish the Hatfield Wettig Scholarship Fund in Nursing. The fund honors Melva Jean Hatfield, a 1952 EU nursing graduate killed in a 1960 car accident. The first award is planned for Fall 1971-72.

A narcotics raid in Riverside ended in gunfire killing officer and a man inside. Richard Frank Morello 24 of Santa Ana was fatally shot during the entry by city county and state officers. five suspects including a pregnant woman were arrested and a large quantity of contraband seized.
