Federal Officials Eye Crop Reports Delay Wheat Planting
Washington June 15 federal officials delayed drastic reductions in the 1939 wheat planting program amid reports of rust damage and crop deterioration in the winter wheat belt. The June 1 crop forecast showed a record wheat crop but the July estimate could lower total. Kansas acreage and state comparisons are noted, with loan provisions tied to July reports and parity price levels. Geary County tests show improving grain quality as farmers report better results from master seed plots.
