Washington June 14 AP Senate and administration clash over the labor bill as the House pushes for early adjournment. Speakers seek relief measures and Indian bill passage amid strict rules. House passes Indian self government act 256 to 88. sent to conference as Roosevelt presses for timely enactment before adjournment.
Venice reports that Germany will not return to the Geneva disarmament conference despite discussions between Chancellor Hitler and Mussolini. German correspondents said no accord would be signed though leaders agreed on many points. No bloc against France or Russia was planned, and Austria would remain free and independent.
Miss Grace Hart 26 formerly of Wichita Kansas was fatally injured in a motorcar accident one mile west of Victory Junction Kan three women companions were injured and hospitalized all in Kansas City Hart was cashier at Hotel Muehlebach and was en route to Wichita for a party the other injured were Mrs May Fleetwood Mrs Helen Filet and Mrs Alice Stewart none in serious condition also Harvey J Bailey filed an appeal from his life term in Leavenworth for the Urschel kidnapping in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver.
The Kansas forecast calls for showers tonight and Saturday with little temperature change. Morning notes show cloudy skies with rain at Pittsboro and light showers at Ottawa. Roads remain muddy in Coffeyville and Dodge City while Ottawa faces slick conditions. Douglas County roads are soft. Gas Office Record lists temperatures at 7 p.m. yesterday.
Berlin reports on June 15 say Germany’s suspension of foreign debt payments signals a move to end reparations and possibly the Versailles Treaty. Experts doubt resumption after the six month moratorium, noting Nazi aims include complete reparations abolition. Britain and France may shield bondholders by halting German payments, with a prior British note warning against Dawes and Young loan interference.
Topeka reports another general rainfall across Kansas bringing two to four inches in many areas. Northern Kansas soaked in 48 hours with heavy showers in the south, while wheat harvest faces added burdens. Temperatures near normal with highs around 80s and lows in the 60s. William Green proposed a presidential arbitration board to handle disputes, with a four point plan including free organizing rights and final board decisions, while some delegates pressed for an immediate strike.
In Chicago on June 15 AP reports a clever international band stole jewels worth 87176 from Mrs Adolph Zukor wife of the film magnate. Other victims include Mrs Fitzhugh Scott in the same hotel and J G Livengood of St Louis. A watch on Mrs Edward B McLean is ordered. The Zukor thief entered her bedroom and seized jewels from a bedside stash on the 13th floor of the Blackstone.
At Tiscornia naval base near Havana a bomb exploded during an official visit injuring President Carlos Mendieta in the hand. An army officer was killed and several others wounded while Mendieta reportedly dined at a detention camp on the base. The incident occurred as the president toured the facility across Havana Bay.
An all day session on July 4 at Holcoms grave will gather Evangelical and United Brethren members from Douglas county to discuss steps toward a proposed union. Nine churches across Lawrence Eudora Clearfield Worden Stull Lawrence Big Springs Lecompton Valley Chapel will be represented with Bishops Stratton and Stamm in attendance. Committees are organizing logistics to ensure a productive gathering and all church members are urged to attend.
The house rules committee gave privileged status to a resolution for a broad investigation by a subcommittee into oil production control legislation. Police hold Joe Ward, 35, in Sallisaw Oklahoma city area on June 15 in connection with the killing of C. N. Nunn Democratic candidate for president of the state board of agriculture. Nunn died from gunshot wounds after being robbed of his car near Brushy Mountain. Nunn said two men fled toward the country after an attempted escape. Washington reports the Senate approved the Geneva treaty on international arms traffic, with a reservation that nine principal arms producing nations must also approve before it applies to the United States. The pact, signed at Geneva on June 17, 1925, limits exports to match importing government needs or with consent for a subordinate public authority.
A carload of creosote oil arrived in Lawrence and is offered at no charge to Douglas county farmers willing to install chinch bug barriers. Erwin Altmeyer, county farm agent, says sixty barrels or 3,000 gallons are available, with instructions at the Farm Bureau in the Federal Building. Fifty gallons cover a half mile barrier using a furrow, 18 inch post holes every 20 feet, calcium cyanide in holes, creosote oil along the ground, designed to lure bugs to the line and into holes where they are killed.
Venice June 15 AP reports German Chancellor Hitler and Italian Premier Mussolini held a second talks session after a luncheon at the Lido golf club. The leaders spoke in German, with Mussolini urging concrete steps, while Hitler delayed Mussolini at times during the encounter. Mussolini occupies the largest hotel at the Lido, keeping others out as the summer season opens.
New York comes from behind with a four run sixth inning off Buck Newsom to beat St Louis 2 0 and sweep the series. Danny Fayden limited the Browns as New York strengthened its stride in the American League clash.
Topeka June 15 AP Fortitude and courage of Kansas farmers especially in the west were lauded by Julius F Stone Jr official with Harry Hopkins relief as he concludes a Kansas survey in the governors office. He noted the southwest dugout residents resisted relocation and praised relief agencies while outlining long term plans including water conservation and moving non profitable farms.
New York June 15 AP Glenn Cunningham rests in New York ahead of Princeton all star track meet with rivals Bill Bonthron and Gene Venzke set for Palmer Stadium. Bonthron primed for the rubber meeting while Eastman and Hornbostel circle the half mile. Car loadings rise says American Railway Association.
Prima Carnera, the Italian giant toppled by Max Baer, went to a hospital in New York for X rays and treatment of a twisted ankle and strained ligaments after a 11th round defeat. Manager Louis Soresi and Dr Vincent Fanoni confirmed the move and expected limited walking for about two weeks. Carnera himself said pain was very strong and blamed an early ankle sprain for the bout’s result.
Gordon Gray and five KU teammates depart Lawrence for California to train for the NCAA championships June 22 and 23 in Los Angeles. Captain Glenn Cunningham and coach Hargiss are in the east for the Princeton meet. Elwyn Dees remains home due to infected tonsils and plans a tonsillectomy in summer.
Fourteen US planes launched two mercy missions from Coco Solo. Navy units searched the Nicaraguan coast for 17 or 18 sailors in a life boat after the Knut Hamsun fire. Army bombers from France Field carried medicine relief tents and supplies to El Salvador, where 3,000 dead are reported and survivors face disease and housing shortages.

A deep well on Frank Potter farm, one mile northeast of Oskaloosa, pumps about 1000 gallons per hour after eight days of operation. The new well, combined with two older wells, nearly eliminates the town’s water shortage, easing the normal demand.
