Three people were treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after two accidents Friday and all were released. Albert Cornwell and his wife Helen of 2009 Ala. St. sustained minor abrasions when a car driven by Fred D. Donald of Topeka collided with theirs on 23rd Street near the Elks Lodge. Donald received minor injuries and was not treated. Damages were about 700 dollars. Barbara Musgrave of 1142 Ind. St. was treated for lacerations and bruises after her motorcycle was struck at 21st and Tenn. Streets by Wilbur Norton of 2209 Vermont Street who said he didn’t see the bike when entering the intersection. The motorcycle sustained extensive damage. the car had minor damage.
An 88 year old man was found dead around 9 a.m. in his rented room at 516 East 8th Street. Coroner James Reed estimates death in the early morning from natural causes pending next of kin notification.
The Kansas Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary named new officers after elections at the state convention in Lawrence Aerie. Lt Gov DeCoursey praised Gov Docking’s father son advisory draft study as a step forward while addressing the gathering.
Temperatures under 70 degrees and stormy weather keep the Lawrence Municipal Swimming Pool closed today. Forecasters say little chance of opening this afternoon and similar conditions may persist into Sunday. Also note the solstice on June 21 with the longest day of the year and Daylight Saving Time.

U S Steel agrees to a 10 year ban on reciprocal deals while First National City Corp. halts its merger with Chubb Corp. as Pittsburgh and New York move to curb consolidation.
Burglars entered Ike Carstarphen’s apartment by forcing a rear door and removing a stereo hi fi component and AM FM radio. A blue English racer bicycle valued at $40 was also stolen from 700 Mass St. The loss amount was not estimated. Police logged the incidents after Friday night into Saturday morning.
