Flag Day Remembering Betsy Ross and the Flag
A Philadelphia backstreet tale recalls Betsy Ross sewing the first Stars and Stripes for the fledgling nation. Colonels Washington Morris and Ross visited her Arch Street home to craft the flag in secrecy, later adopted by Congress in 1777. The Arch Street house, saved by a ten-cent subscription from two million people, is preserved for the nation and Flag Day on June 14 urges Americans to honor the flag’s ideals.
