William Shorter a 36 year old former Army sergeant was convicted of second degree murder in the slaying of his wife Theresia Shorter 30 native of Austria. The killing occurred August 21 at the trailer court where they lived and she ran a beauty parlor. Shorter was on duty as a cook at Fort Riley when arrested. Judge A B Fletcher Jr presided without a jury at defense request. The defense plea of insanity was rejected as was the state's first degree murder charge.
