Balance Sheet View of U S Foreign Trade Proposed by Peek

Washington June 13 AP George N Peek special advisor on foreign trade to the President presented a study covering 38 years showing the United States ran a large trade surplus with the world yet argues a balance sheet is needed to show profits or losses. He claims the world owes the United States USD 36.646 billion in goods and with loans and foreign investments the total debt to the country rises to 58.289 billion. He notes exports far exceed imports but deducts travel and immigrant spending leaving a net favorable balance of 17.217 billion. Roosevelt called the figures of tremendous interest and urged public release while suggesting the study be refined.
