Sworn witnesses describe the night raid on the jail, the crowd at Pinckney and Massachusetts streets, and the hangings on the bridge. Officials report masked participants, unmasked leaders, and confusion over exact numbers and actions before and after the lynching.
Thursday night Fennimore was arrested on a warrant sworn by John Madison for breaking into a saloon and stealing money and stock valued at file dollars. Witnesses led to Dinclair's saddles hidden under a straw stack behind the paper mill. a Kansas City man bought two stolen harnesses. Fennimore, with Clarke, previously released, faced preliminary exam for two sets of harness theft and sold them to Donnelly after initial denial. He was bound over for trial. past fine for a prior break-in.
A largely peaceful meeting of Lawrence colored men convened at the court house to reaffirm law and order amid recent murder allegations. The assembly praised Sheriff Ashar’s restraint during a jail siege and urged unity, denouncing sensational press reports as false.

Professor Williams of the University of Kansas will conduct, aided by Superintendent Stanley and Jarge I. Howard.
