State panel OKs using Rep on ballots to label Estes

A Kansas state panel ruled Republican Ron Estes can appear as Rep. Ron Estes on the August 7 primary ballot to avoid voter confusion with a GOP challenger of the same name. The board also allowed a Republican candidate for the 85th District to stay on the ballot despite questions about residency. It barred Vermin Supreme from statewide race for attorney general, citing a Shawnee County ruling that statewide offices require residency in the state. The decisions followed objections filed after the June 1 filing deadline. The Objections Board comprises the secretary of state, lieutenant governor, and attorney general or designees. Estes vs Estes involved a Wichita man challenging an Estes bid.
