Kansas public school funding case trims equity action
The Kansas three judge panel took no action on the equity portion of the Gannon versus Kansas case, signaling it may reopen hearings if lawmakers fail to follow through on spring funding. The panel deferred the broader adequacy question, citing ongoing proceedings and the Supreme Court remand. Rights groups note past cuts hit poorer districts hardest, while lawmakers cite added funds via equalization and local option budgets. Attorney General Schmidt welcomed the ruling and said the state has met capital outlay and local option equalization requirements.

The King and I returns to Theatre Lawrence stage
The musical based on Margaret Landon’s novel about Anna Leonowens and King Mongkut of Siam in the 1860s is praised as a romanticized history. Doveton notes its love stories and cross cultural themes, while new cast members like Ashton Rapp and Elliott add youthful energy to the classic production.
