War would end the Great Sex Purge of 1997
Washington columnist Sandy Grady argues that war would silence the sexual purity crusade in the military by treating personnel as killers on the battlefield rather than saints. He cites the Ralston and Flinn cases, calls the era a sexual McCarthyism, and calls for amnesty for adulterers while urging limited punishment for abuses of power. Grady notes Gina Carter and Joe McCarthy’s echoes while urging Cohen panels to set clear rules.
