Bevin opposes immediate 100000 Jewish Palestine entry

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin signaled opposition to the Palestine commission’s recommendation to admit 100,000 Jews to Palestine at once. Speaking at a Labour conference in Bournemouth he warned such a move could require more British troops, urged disarmament by both sides, and urged a world focus on the regional land and economic problems. Bevin cautioned against sanctions on Spain, discussed US-British plans, and noted ongoing talks with US, France, and the USSR, with a Paris meeting set for June 15.
