Health advisers back full approval of Alzheimer's drug Legembi
An FDA advisory panel unanimously backs full approval for Legembi based on an 1,800 patient study showing modest slowing of decline in memory and cognition for mild to early Alzheimer's. The recommendation, though nonbinding, could influence final FDA action by July 6 and pave insurer coverage for treated seniors.

Shortages Grow as U.S. Drug Supply Faces Disruptions
U.S. drug shortages rose nearly 30 percent from 2021 to 2022, seen as a national security risk by a Senate committee. Causes include supply chain disruptions, quality issues, overreliance on overseas makers, export controls, and demand shifts. Cancer drugs are especially risky, with potential life‑threatening treatment gaps for patients. Hospitals with limited stock bear the brunt while authorities seek mitigations such as imports, though relief timing remains uncertain. Rose Conlon reports for the Kansas News Service.

Duke leads US trials of donor heart transplants from non beating donors
Researchers in Australia and Britain began DCD heart transplants seven years ago with Duke pioneering US experiments in 2019. Last year US performed 345 DCD transplants and 227 so far this year per UNOS. Nearly 90 percent of recovered DCD hearts were transplanted, though very sick patients on the waiting list faced lower DCD access. TransMedics funded the study which tested the heart storage system.
