James A. Ames Grabs Western Rail Stock In Big Move
New York reports Commodore Atlen Curtis James, noted yachtsman and society leader, has become the largest single owner of a major property through acquiring a substantial block of Western Pacific stock. He already held large stakes in Northern Pacific and Great Northern railroads and is linked to the Chicago Burlington and Quincy. Analysts foresee possible realignment of western railroads in this purchase and potential clashes with a rival system led by L. F. Loren. James insists the investment is purely personal and says he bought it because it seemed inexpensive.
