Lawrence police report multiple thefts including Pioneer speakers and a Craftsman tool chest stolen from a vehicle on Greystone Drive and four ceiling fans with tiles from a home trailer on Loton Mich between May 27 and May 30. Additional computer valued at 1520 stolen from a Powers residence May 30 or 31. Emergency calls listed include numerous medical emergencies and accidents across city routes and blocks.
Maureen and Larry Davidson welcomed a girl in Tonganoxie on Friday. Greg and Virginia Adamson welcomed a girl in Lawrence on Tuesday. Darrell and Christine Griggs welcomed a boy in Baldwin on Tuesday. Tamim and Shama Hamid welcomed a boy in Topeka with Bob and Carol Schmidt on Tuesday.
A 47 year old Lawrence woman Jeanette Fern Littleson was arrested on arson charges after authorities say she shut herself in a car and lit the interior during a domestic dispute over a divorce. She was held without bond as a first appearance was planned in Douglas County District Court. Firefighters reported no serious injuries. The car was co owned by Littleson and the alleged target. The incident followed a noon time blaze at 1031 VT Street.
The board approved a policy for evacuating disabled individuals during disasters and raised staff pay based on experience and performance. A summer food program offers free meals for youths 18 and under at Centenary United Methodist Church East Lawrence Recreation Center South Park Recreation Center and Boys and Girls Club locations in Lawrence through late July or early August. Breakfast at the Boys and Girls Club runs 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and meals run noon to 1 p.m. at most sites. The program is supported by 12 government and nonprofit agencies.
A busy Lawrence calendar lists events from a Lawrence Business Education Partnership Summer Workshop at Free State High School to a health screening for seniors at Babcock Place. The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department sponsors screenings and a Lawrence school board meeting with consultant John Cahill. Evening events include a Douglas County Commission session, a Lawrence City Band concert, and NAACP activities. Bookmobile routes are set across Brandon Woods Vermont Towers Drury Place Prairie Park and other sites with varied times.
