Kansas Teachers Begin 18th Kabie Study Tour

Forty Kansas teachers depart Emporia on the 18th annual Kabie Study Tour traveling roughly 2,000 miles in two weeks. The air conditioned bus will stop in 32 cities visiting 73 business industrial education and historical sites. The tour is sponsored by the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce Kansas State Teachers Association and Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia.

Jets Bomb Hanoi Plant in Major U.S. Raid

U S jets from three aircraft carriers bombed an electric plant in Hanoi and targets on the outskirts. One plane was lost and a Navy pilot is missing. The raid, from the Constellation Bon Homme Richard and Enterprise, faced heavy ground fire from Hanoi defenses. The strikes came after a mortar attack on Pleiku.

Woman Dies in Kansas Storm After 100 mph Winds

A severe Friday night storm in Concordia Kansas caused one death and several injuries. Mrs P S Fee Sr died in a local hospital after rushing for safety as winds over 100 mph struck the area. Her son Don Fee and others were treated for injuries and farm damage affected 15 farms near Asherville. Authorities requested Kansas National Guard aid to prevent looting and to protect damaged properties.

Jericho Falls as Israeli Forces Sweep Through

Israeli motorized units chased Jordanian armor east of Jerusalem and swerved toward Jericho. Air strikes frightened residents as the city fell quickly with little resistance and refugees reacted at a nearby camp. Hebron was occupied with troops touring the holy sites including Abraham’s tomb and the mosque.

Judges Chosen For 23rd Lawrence Charity Horse Show

The 23rd annual Lawrence Charity Horse Show at the Douglas County Fairgrounds July 15 to 18 has three judges. Charles Porter Jr of Pontiac Illinois is the show horse and pony judge. Wayne Dunaton of Westmoreland Kansas is the Western horse judge. Anthony A. Rieke of Shawnee Mission Kansas will judge the Tennessee walking horses. Porter and his family are active with horses. Dunaton is known as the Marlboro Man and a breeder. Rieke raises his own stock and his family are avid walkers horse competitors.

Weekend Traffic Accidents Report Two Collisions

At 1 43 p m Friday on W 21st Street and Ousdahl Road a crash between Marilyn F Norris 17 of 2008 Emerald Drive and Pamela K Pruette 20 of Topeka caused minor injuries to Shewmake and damages 175 for Shewmake 250 for Fellers. At 5 p m Friday at 7th and NY Street Jose C Romero 26 of 920 NY Street collided with Robert L Ellis 36 of St Louis Missouri Damages 565 to the car and 465 to the pickup.

Two Thefts Reported In Separate Incidents

Police reported two thefts today. Richard Dwyer of 1000 Maine St. said a tire and wheel worth 20 dollars were stolen from his car parked outside his home Friday night. The Virginia Inn on West 6th Street reported a transistor radio valued at 89 dollars stolen from the restaurant basement sometime Monday or Tuesday night.

U N Council Sees Urgent Session Over Middle East Hostilities

Reports from U N observers in Syria reached the council during a dawn meeting as the Soviet Union warned of a serious situation unless Israel halts what it calls aggression. The 15 nation body summoned an urgent session at 3 32 a m CDT after breaking relations with Israel.
