Surviving Lawrence Buildings Stood Through Quantrill Raid
Architectural historian Brenna Buchanan Young argues that portions of Lawrence buildings, including the ground floors at 706 Massachusetts Street, survived the 1863 Quantrill raid. Her research suggests as many as 100 structures kept original materials or partial facades, challenging the belief that downtown was utterly destroyed.
