Glacier surge thrills Alaska tourists turning heads

In Alaska Range the Tokositna Glacier surged in late February moving about eight feet daily. Pilots from Talkeetna reported the 20 mile long river of ice over 1,000 feet thick attracting awe and rare vantage points for visitors, while glaciologist Guy Adema noted the surprising pace.

Floods from Tropical Storm Allison hit Gulf Coast

Rain from Allison swamp ed Louisiana and Texas for a fourth day, killing at least one person and flooding streets and homes. Gov. Foster declared a state of emergency as nearly 2 feet of rain fell since Tuesday. National Guard evacuated hundreds along the Comite River near Baton Rouge while the river rose over 10 feet above flood stage. Across the region up to 6 inches fell in east Texas and Erath and Youngsville logged about 16 inches by Friday.
