German plane hijacked en route to Turkey lands in Cologne
An Air Malta flight carrying 80 passengers and six crew was hijacked from Malta to Turkey and landed in Cologne. Five passengers including an elderly heart patient were released about an hour later as negotiators sought the hijacker, who claimed a bomb and sought a Turkish translator and possibly a TV crew. He appeared to act alone and motives were unclear. ARD reported he demanded Mehmet Ali Agca’s release from Italian prison.
