States and local governments still cutting jobs after recession
Washington reports that state and local governments continue shedding jobs amid the 2009- recession aftermath. With 467000 local posts lost since June 2009 and 188000 in schools, economists warn further cuts into mid 2012 will ripple through private firms and services. Moody’s links each local job to 1.3 others. Government budget tightening, fading federal stimulus, and strained tax revenue mar recovery efforts.
