Mayfield tops in Dover qualifying for MBNA 400
Jeremy Mayfield edged Ryan Newman to take the pole at Dover International Speedway with a 161.522 mph lap, the eighth pole of his career. Newman was second at 160.643 mph, with Rusty Wallace 1999 pole speed record holder and others like Brian Vickers and Elliott Sadler among the top qualifiers as NASCAR trucks and Busch series notes highlighted a busy speedway day. Mayfield aims for his first win since 2000, while Wallace and Vickers chase strong showings in the MBNA events.
