Lawrence weighs ban on single use plastic bags and staffing needs
The Lawrence City Commission weighs a proposed ordinance banning single use plastic bags with enforcement costs. A 2024 budget would add one full time code compliance officer at about 94000 dollars for salary benefits and a city vehicle. The draft outlines environmental and operational impacts, fines from 100 to 500 dollars, and exemptions for produce and reusable or paper bags.
