Veterans face employment hunt after Iraq and Afghanistan service
Army Staff Sgt. Steven Cummings relives mortar sounds and financial strain after returning from 14 months in Iraq. His wife took two mortgages to cover debts as he was laid off from two jobs battling ongoing deployment concerns. The piece notes broader veteran unemployment, proposed tax credits for companies hiring veterans and dependents, and stories of Cummings, Army Cpl. Vicki Angell, and Army Sgt. Benjamin Lewis finding postwar work amid doubts about deployment.
