The House adopted a resolution to make Bob Hope an honorary veteran of the U.S. armed forces, potentially making him the first to receive the honor if the Senate approves. The 94 year old comedian has spent over 50 years visiting troops worldwide to boost morale and bring comfort to service members.
Kenneth Bernard Harris, 34, was executed for raping neighbor Lisa Stonestreet, 28, and strangling her in her Houston apartment bathtub in 1986. Harris apologized in court, while Stonestreet’s sister forgave him, as investigators linked his palm prints to the missing car. Marines on Parris Island and San Diego boot camps suspended boxing after a recruit died from brain injuries and another was badly hurt. A seven member committee will review training while recruits learn fighting techniques without punching.

Honolulu police investigate reports of Bobby Brown slapping Whitney Houston in a Sunday incident at a shopping mall. Witnesses say Brown emerged from a limo with a beer, then struck Houston as she exited, with a reported 10 minute quarrel before they left in the limo. Houston reportedly cried for help. security later said all was under control and the couple departed Hawaii Monday without comment.
