Kansas Boys State Exposes 1 051 Delegates to Government Mock

Kansas Boys State hosts 1 051 high school seniors in a year long leadership program run by the American Legion. Delegates campaign for offices in simulated city county and state governments and attend seminars and talks.

KU Camp Total Enrollment Drops From Last Year

The Midwestern Music and Art Camp at Kansas University opens June 9 for junior high and June 22 for senior divisions. Total participants will exceed last year’s half, with junior high enrollment up slightly, music about 275 280, art 115, and senior high around 900 vs 1 620 prior. Language sections are dropped due to lack of interest as prices rise amid economic conditions. Guest conductors include Dr Milburn Carey and Victor Alessandro among a long list of KU and allied educators and musicians.

Rail Leader From Lawrence Dies From Auto Accident

Samuel J. Cooley 78 of Park Ridge Illinois retired vice president for real estate and industrial development for the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific Railroad died following an automobile accident. A native of Lawrence Kansas he held an engineering degree from the University of Kansas and earlier worked with other railroads and the Interstate Commerce Commission before entering real estate in Kansas City Survivors include his widow and a daughter Mrs Timothy Corcoran of Peoria Services to be held at Ryan Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge Saturday.

Mamie Eisenhower Receives Turtle Gift in Korea Ties

In New York the American Korean Foundation presented Mamie Eisenhower with a turtle shaped paper weight of topaz and gold. The gift marks the founding of an agricultural program named for Dwight D. Eisenhower to train 600000 South Koreans.

Kansas 4 H Clubs held Friends of 4 H Day at Rock Springs Ranch near Junction City to honor 44 individuals and businesses for long time support. Ray Frisbie led the recognition program. Dolph Simons Sr. presided at a noon luncheon and tours followed. The Rock Springs Ranch Wall of Fame added L R Quinlan and the late Fred D Wilson. Funeral services for Mrs. Alexandrine Heberling 96 of Rt 2 Overbrook will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Albright Funeral Home with Rev Joye A Doane officiating. Burial follows at Twin Mound Cemetery. She died Thursday in an Ottawa nursing home and was a lifelong Overbrook resident member of Twin Mound United Methodist Church. Survived by son Carl and two grandchildren.
