Judge shortens Florida smoker class action by dropping witnesses
Circuit Judge Robert Kaye cut three planned witnesses from a Florida smokers class action seeking multibillion-dollar damages for 300 000 to 500 000 sick residents. Plaintiffs' lawyer says overlap with other cases exists while industry argues 28 witnesses not planned. The six jurors already awarded 12.7 million in compensatory damages to three plaintiffs in the first national smokers class action trial.
