China plans aircraft carrier to be ready by 2020
Jane's Defense Weekly reports China plans a carrier not fully operational until about 2020. Senior naval sources say the program was approved at last year's Communist Party Congress in Beijing and shifted from the 1996 2000 to the 2001 2005 five year plan. Getting sea ready would require about 18 years. Delivery of Southeast Asia's first carrier to Thailand strengthens China’s push for necessary technology.
