Life of Lawrence's strong Kansas leader Perkins ends in tragedy
An obituary recalls Lawrence resident and Kansas lawyer Mr. Perkins, admitted to the bar in 1879, educated at the State University in 1880, and married in 1882. Known for his powerful intellect and leadership, he built a famed home Afton Court, entertained judges and notable guests, led the State Bar association, and left a legacy of hospitality and sharp mind. He died after a rapid decline, with observers noting his pulse drop from 104 to 0 as his respiratory system failed, in a somber end to a storied life.
