Trails celebration expands Lawrence area routes
Local volunteers celebrate National Trails Day as Carl Ringler coordinates a four mile cleared stretch at Clinton State Park. A rugged Mountain bike ride starts 10 a.m. Saturday from the park overlook on the Wild Dog Trail part of the planned 4 800 mile American Discovery Trail linking eight national trails. Riders should expect ticks and insects and bring water and tire repair gear. The ADT route halves use roads, but much remains to be cleared around the lake. Ringler seeks input from hikers hunters bikers and groups with stake in the trail. A second event at 9 a.m. Saturday features a hike led by Jackie Wedel along the George Latham Hiking Trail.

One-car wreck kills local man near Lawrence
