Georgia Rea Makes a Perfect Game Dream Debut
Georgia Bree Elizabeth Rea, daughter of Chad Rea, reflected on her first interview after a Wednesday night win at USI Field 3. She recalled pitching a full game with bases empty, while her father claimed it was a perfect game. The Cubs stand 5-2 in league play and in tournaments, with Georgia unsure of her own pitching record. She credits fielders Joey Wood, Charlie Elston, Tanner Glanton, and Anthony Barberena for support. Georgia, age 13, may switch to softball later, as her family supports her baseball passion and her growing pride in a sport guided by her dad.

City budget requests test city funding limits in 2014 plan
The 2014 budget proposals include a $173,000 rise for the Lawrence Public Library operations at the expanded facility, driven by higher health insurance costs and KPERS pension contributions. The library will add two new positions via restructuring, not staff growth, while keeping book and material expenses steady. Douglas County seeks about $135,000 to add four dispatchers to the Emergency Communications Center, with financing split 66 percent by the city and 34 percent by the county. A federal grant bid of $875,000 aims to fund seven school resource officers for three years, needing $460,000 in city matching funds. city manager recommends $120,000 toward K-10 Connector transit aid, rising to $275,000 by 2016 to prevent service cuts. The Lawrence Arts Center seeks $51,000 general funding for a custodian, tech staff, and maintenance, plus $25,000 from liquor tax for scholarships, plus $15,000 for a new phone system and $20,000 to upgrade the kitchen.
