FDA says Upjohn Halcion probe should have via DOJ

An FDA task force concluded that safety concerns from a 1992 Upjohn probe into the sleeping pill Halcion should have prompted a Justice Department inquiry. The panel found no evidence of harm when used as directed or criminal wrongdoing by Upjohn, but noted poor oversight of some trials and potential misreported data in a prison study that could have influenced the agency. The report notes the drug’sUS sales collapse and Britain’s 1991 ban tied to the data controversy.
