County approves 10-year tax incentive for EU apartment complex
Douglas County Commission approved a 10-year 85 percent tax rebate for a $75 million mixed use apartment project on Indiana Street. The 3-0 vote matches incentives already approved by the city of Lawrence and the Lawrence school district. Developers from HERE INC. say the deal could be terminal and will help the project overcome challenges. The city manager’s analysis says the rebate would yield $97,000 in first-year property tax, up from $46,000 currently.

Boyfriend held after Wichita toddler firearm death
Wichita police arrest mother's boyfriend on suspicion of criminal possession of a firearm in the accidental shooting death of 3 year old Jahmez Hunt. Investigators say Jahmez apparently shot himself in the chest around 5 p.m. Tuesday while his mother and the man napped in the home. The suspect, 30, as two prior convictions, held on $5,000 as the probe continues. The mother reportedly did not know the gun was in the house.
