Obesity surgery death rates drop to near other major operations
A study from 10 U S hospitals on gastric bands and stomach stapling from 2005 to 2007 found 3 deaths per 1000 patients and 43 major complications within a month of surgery. This is much lower than earlier estimates and closer to risks of gallbladder, hip, or other major procedures.
