Treehouse playgrounds spread across North of Eudora homes

Families expand play spaces with multiple treehouses on a 40 acre spread near Eudora. Parents describe treehouses as a service to families, not a business, with accessible designs and climate controlled options. Children like Caden and the Anderson siblings enjoy nightly stays, fireflies, and imagination driven by the elevated homes and shared construction memories.

Lawrence’s Kansas Hermit lived in a famous treehouse

Hugh Cameron, known as the Kansas Hermit, settled Lawrence in 1854 and spent decades as a recluse living in treehouses. His elaborate Fifth and Louisiana street treehouse featured a kitchen and dining area, with electric and phone service by 1908. He died in 1908 at age 82 after leading a curiously public life.

Colorful Treehouse Timeline Through History

A compact history traces treehouses from Caligula’s banquets to modern pop culture. It notes Shrewsbury’s 18th century treehouse, Captain Cook sightings in Tasmania, Swiss Family Robinson influence, Winnie the Pooh and Tarzan links, Ewoks in Star Wars, and the Hobbs Taylor Lofts demolition after a 2003 tree vigil on Lawrence and New Hampshire streets.
