Denbigh blockade runner dug from Gulf near Galveston
Texas A&M Nautical Archaeology Team has excavated parts of the Denbigh, the Civil War era British blockade runner, from 6 feet beneath the Gulf floor off Galveston. The ship, loaded with smuggled goods and famed as a top 1860s design, represents the era’s pinnacle of British shipbuilding and may yield one intact engine and drive train for a museum display.
