West of Rheims the Allies push the Germans back along the Boug line. At the bottom of the Foch pocket the Crown Prince's army is being gradually forced northward as Allied pressure continues.
Allied and German forces clash along a vast front between Soissons and Rheims with heavy fighting north of the Marne. American troops on the Aisne Marne front hold positions and gain slightly while French and Allied units push near Aubilly Beugneux and Villers Agricourt as the battle persists.
London dispatches report American forces in the Soissons-Rheims sector fighting hard for 24 hours with limited progress as Germans probe for a breakthrough. The Germans retain Cierges while Americans hold Sergy and press costly counterattacks. French forces capture Romigny on the eastern flank.
A 1914 memorandum from former Captain Beerfield urges ruthless action against German government leaders. He blames Von Bethmann Hollweg and others for Rome war deception and treason, threatens to seek Swiss passes if Reichstag refuses action.

Gordon is known in Missouri and Kansas and was stationed at Haskell Institute in Lawrence. The nomination is announced through the Catholic Register.
