Heat and humidity peak in the Northeast as storms drenched Florida and dotted the Southwest. A steamy week continues from Texas to Michigan with late day storms forecast in the Southwest and heavy rain across the South.
KU outlines a Campus Master Plan component for the Central District bounded by 19th Street Iowa Street 15th Street and Ambler Recreation Center. Public forums at Schwegler Elementary School gym and Burge Union invite residents to view renderings and discuss transforming 19th Street into a campus front door.
KU invites community members to two public forums to review the Central District master plan. The first forum runs today 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schwegler Elementary gym, 2201 Osdahl Road, with a second 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. August 24 in the Burge Union. The plan includes integrated science buildings, mixed use near 19th and Iowa, new residence housing, and a pedestrian Jayhawk Trail linking districts. It also covers green spaces, an expanded Burge Union, and infrastructure, with funding from philanthropy, partnerships, and potential public-private sources. Groundbreaking for the Earth, Energy and Environment Center is slated for late summer or early fall as part of Innovation Way. Sensitive details mention EEEC’s location in North District but bridged to Central District. Local note: Stouffer Place closed June 30. McCollum Hall demolition planned November 25. Oswald and Self halls will open this fall to replace Daisy Hill.
