Fire and false alarm calls reported in Lawrence area
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical logged several incidents including false alarms at 8:11 p.m. and 6:44 p.m. Sunday, a trash bin fire at 4 a.m. Sunday, and vehicle fires on 2300 W 26th St and nearby. Police watchdog appealing his 30 day jail sentence

Last week in Lawrence featured a celebrity gathering for the Dole Institute dedication with Robert Dole Jimmy Carter and Rudy Giuliani in attendance. Dole stayed at the Lawrence Holidome 200 McDonald Drive while Tom Brokaw also used the Holidome. Carter spent Monday night with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius at Cedar Crest. Giuliani arrived July 21 late afternoon and departed by 9 p.m. Sebelius and Carter have long been acquainted through Ohio governor John Gilligan.
