Wartime primary quiet in Kansas campaign
In Topeka on July 28 the wartime primary campaign shows no opposition in most races. Gov Schoeppel faces few rivals as Republicans contest senatorial and congressional seats while Democrats field only one lieutenant governor candidate. Notable contests include Reed vs Friend for the Senate nomination and Lambertson vs Cole in the 1st district. A notable six-candidate race for chief justice also forms, with several statewide offices unopposed. Argentine demonstration supports government policy with a noise bomb injuring no one.
