Employment aim of U S relief in highway aid
Washington July 28 AP Men, not machines, are to be favored for jobs from the $120,000,000 federal highway aid. Workers must be employed on an 80 hour week with salaries in contracts between the government and builders. Regulations by Secretary Hyde will seek maximum local labor use while allowing some machine work. State highway departments and federal supervising engineer decide what can be done by hand. Officials expect the full $120,000,000 to be demanded, though no applications have yet been received.
