Historic record notes a July 27 1819 hurricane that devastated the Gulf Coast. Bay St Louis Mississippi suffered widespread flooding with six feet of water and only three houses remaining.
Federal investigators return to Washington to review preliminary data and interviews on the July 17 Barton Solvents explosion in Valley Center. CSB lead Randy McClure says focus is on storage, transfer areas, flammable material handling, and applicable regulations. He notes static electricity could have ignited vapors, causing a tank to rocket outside plant boundaries and start a fire that damaged two more tanks, a nearby house, and a business.
